Mimesis is Not Adaptive Behavior, 2009

On June 18, 2004 investigators in rural Texas found twelve pounds of charred remains inside a burning Chevrolet. It was presumed to be the body of Clayton Wayne Daniels, then 23, who was facing pending sexual assault charges.

Over the course of the next three weeks, however, investigators found that Daniels had in fact exhumed the body of a recently deceased woman, which he dressed in his clothing, put in his car, set on fire, and pushed over a cliff. Soon after the accident, witnesses claimed that someone matching Daniels' description started appearing at the residence where Daniels had lived with his wife and two children. This man, known as Jacob, was rumored to be the new boyfiend of Molly, Clayton's wife. A search of their home revealed a complex scheme to forge birth certificates and other documents for Clayton in the name of Jacob Gregg and to use life insurance money from the crash to pay for plastic surgery in Mexico.

The related documents and artifacts were found near Burnett County, Texas in 2009.
