Witness, 2008

December 16, 2008
I hired four witnesses, none of whom knew me previously, to watch a twenty-second live performance under a highway overpass in San Rafael, CA and then work with a police sketch artist to create a composite sketch of my face based on their memories. Unlike most police-sketch scenarios, the witnesses speak at the same time, as a group; they contradict each other and argue about what actually happened. Oddly, I found out later that a real crime had taken place that same morning--a homicide victim was found less than a block away, and even as our fake crime was happening, real police were really investigating.
